Settling down!!! Wonder what that is..

I have realised off lately, that Gender Equality, Settling down, Solo travelling, Women Empowerment are all THE WORDS used most often. What "settling down" means to you may not be the same for someone else. Things have changed and for the better.

Women have always been termed as inferior to the other gender for whatever reasons. Women are strong enough; they are made weaker by terming them weaker. Over the centuries, women have transformed into abala naari. My conscience strongly makes me believe that women are and were strong otherwise how would we have such strong women like a Joan of Arc or a Jhansi ki Rani in that era. The women are not week they are made weaker over the centuries by telling them "you are weak, you are supposed to be doing only these activities". They were not weak by birth but are ‘processed weak’, period.

Now, coming to exploring the term "settling down", is it the same in the other developed countries. Why are we asked this question, do our instincts and individuality stop after marriage. Do we have to depend on our better halves for taking a decision? Only the mud settles down. Ironically, recently the ace tennis player Sania Mirza was also asked the same "settling down" question on the national television. The response she gave definitely had dumbstruck the interviewer. She has won so many accolades to her parents and the country. The interviewer made himself clear as to what he meant by saying “settling down”. Whether to extend her family at this age or not is her personal choice isn’t?

It is so demeaning to ask such personal questions in the interviews or wherever we go. Are men asked the same question? I am sure nobody bothers about such things when it comes to the other gender. I am not really sure, if this ever changes. The message has to be conveyed loud and clear that the ‘marital status’ or ‘settling down’ (whatever that means) would not impact their business.
